Canon

Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

1. Introduction

Canon (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the canon.build website and the Canon application (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

2. Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and name through our authentication provider (Clerk). If you sign in with a social account (e.g., Google), we receive basic profile information from that provider.

Project content: Files, notes, chat messages, and other content you create within Canon projects. This content is stored in our database and object storage to provide the Service.

Waitlist: If you join our waitlist, we collect your email address and optional information about your intended use case.

Usage data: We may collect anonymous usage analytics to improve the Service, such as page views and feature usage patterns.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • To communicate with you about the Service (e.g., waitlist updates, product announcements)
  • To process your creative content through AI models for features like chat, summarization, and entity extraction
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse

4. AI Processing

Canon uses third-party AI models (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google) to provide its core features. Your project content is sent to these providers for processing. We do not use your content to train AI models. Each provider's data handling is governed by their respective privacy policies and our data processing agreements with them.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers in the United States using industry-standard cloud infrastructure providers. We use encryption in transit (TLS) and implement reasonable security measures to protect your information.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Clerk — authentication and user management
  • Neon — database hosting
  • Cloudflare R2 — file and asset storage
  • Vercel — website and application hosting
  • Render — backend API hosting

7. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. You may delete your account and all associated project data through the application.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date.
